Join me for a wild horses photography tour in Utah! Our June 2019 trip was phenomenal, and because some of the herd is scheduled to be rounded up in October, I just added a trip for September. The area we're going to has large groups of wild horses including foals in many interesting colors, scenic mountain backgrounds, and lots of interaction between horses/bands. I am a licensed tour guide at this location, with years of experience locating wild horses and getting into prime vantage points to photograph them.
Tours are for amateur and professional photographers looking only for a guide so they can view, experience, and photograph the wild horses. You are welcome to attend if you are not a photographer, but please be aware that our schedule is tailored to photographers, taking advantage of the best light and locations for that purpose. I also offer workshops/mentoring trips to photograph these wild horses, with individualized instruction in photography and/or business/marketing (see separate listing). This listing is for a tour only, and while I'm always happy to answer questions, and share information about wild horse behavior, there is no detailed instruction included.
DATES: We completed our tours for May/June, but just added dates for September 23-26, 2019 (Please wait for contact from me after purchase before purchasing your flights)
PRICE: $400 per person, per day, with a 3-day minimum per person
WHAT'S INCLUDED: Transportation between the Hampton Inn in Tooele, Utah and our photography locations each day (unless otherwise directly communicated). Experienced guidance to find and get to the wild horses and navigate the roads; knowledge of the horses and the area. Bottled water and a cooler to store snacks/lunch (food not included). Maximum of 3 tour participants per day.
WHAT'S *NOT* INCLUDED: Lodging, airfare or transportation to/from our meeting point in Tooele other than to our photography locations on the day(s) of the tour, meals, camera equipment.
ITINERARY: Each tour date we will be out finding and photographing wild horses from before/at sunrise to after sunset in remote areas with little or no amenities. We leave from the Hampton Inn in Tooele, which has an early breakfast included in their room price; we need to bring any food/drinks for the day with us (I will provide a cooler and bottled waters). We will return to Tooele in time for you to eat dinner at one of the local restaurants (not included).
REQUIREMENTS: You should have a solid working knowledge of your specific camera gear; while I am happy to help with basic questions, I will not be familiar with every camera model out there. I strongly suggest that your photography be at an intermediate level or above, although it's fine if you've never photographed horses or wildlife before. This trip will involve lots of walking over varied terrain (mostly flat, but with uneven ground), and involves long, moderately strenuous days, so the ability to walk moderate distances of a mile or two and carry/hold your gear is a must. Weather may vary, so we should be prepared for chilly morning/evenings, and lots of sun during the day, but conditions can change quickly. We will be monitoring the weather carefully. Once you book, I can provide some suggestions for how to dress and what to bring in terms of clothing and camera equipment.
DISCLAIMERS: Once you book, you will need to sign a liability waiver in order to participate. Also, the weather is outside our control. Because the roads are not paved, rain may make certain areas impassable, although I will be driving a 4WD vehicle suitable for the terrain. I strongly suggest purchasing trip insurance for this reason, as no weather-related refunds may be given. In the event of inclement weather on your tour date, I'm happy to include you on a different date during the same week at no charge -- if there is space available in the vehicle. We are not guaranteed to find wild horses, but I have never gone to this location and NOT found them, since I have years of experience observing their favorite spots within this terrain. I am fully licensed through the Bureau of Land Management to offer commercial guide services at this location.
